Library Refurbishment Project

Our library is located in the central area of school. It's a busy area that all pupils benefit from, visiting several times each week, either with their class, in small groups, or independently.

Reading is a key skill for all pupils to learn and is integrated into our curriculum. The library helps to support the our vision of promoting the breadth and variety of reading in school. We also aim to foster a love of reading for pleasure.

Furniture in the library has been here for many years. It has been well used and now fails to effectively store our current stock of several thousand books.

We want our new library space to:

• have shelving that fits the size of our book stock
• have display areas for periodicals such as newspapers and magazines
• have shelving that provides easy access to stock well above floor level
• have clever solutions for storing stock that isn't in use (e.g. seasonal books, such as those on Christmas topics)
• have display areas on the end of shelves and above shelving to attract children to featured books
• introduce clear signposting to books of all types
• provide seating areas where children can read

Our furniture is now quite aged and is no longer fit for purpose. Our plan is for the library to stay in the same place but the space to be utilised better. We would like the furniture to be on wheels, thereby allowing us to quickly and easily rearrange the space when necessary, to accommodate the regular book fair, for example.
