What is the Hypsilophodon?
Have you ever heard of a dinosaur smaller than a human? If you have, I bet you weren’t thinking of a Hypsilophodon. However I will be excited tell you about this unique dinosaur.
Living in the Cretaceous period approximately 120 to 125 million years ago, the Hypsilophodon was one kind of dinosaur because it is only 1.3 meters tall. Hypsilophodon - meaning ‘ridged tooth’ - only live in England, Spain, Portugal, Isle of Wight and North America. The Hypsilophodon was not a flying dinosaur, not a swimming dinosaur but it was a running dinosaur, running up to a speed of 50mph.
I suppose that having a bite on a leaf isn’t that bad. Being a herbivore only means that they ate leaves and grass, and this helped them run fast and keep healthy so they could run fast away from other dinosaurs such as T-rex, Iguanodon and Pterodactyl.
Living with an extremely long tail so it could fight against other dinosaurs, the Hypsilophodon had brilliant eye sight as well. Having exceptionally long legs for his running, he was a remarkable beast. Now do you know what a Hypsilophodon is? This unique dinosaur is a herbivore and an extremely fast runner.

Hypsilophodon
Dinosaurs are fascinating creatures, however what do you know about them? How many do you know of? Have you ever heard of a tiny but iconic dinosaur? The Hypsilophodon is a unique dinosaur that lived 120 to 125 million years ago.
Fascinating Food
Shockingly, Hypsilophodon’s weigh 20 to 50kg, which is similar to the average weight of a human child or teenager! These amazing dinosaurs rely on plants to live as they are Herbivores. Other dinosaurs, such as Baroynx and Neovenators, prey on Hypsilophodons.
Amazing Habitat
Their habitat is in the forests of England, Portugal and North America. Hypsilophodons are bipedal (they walk on two legs) and although small, they are tremendously fast which helps them get away from their predators.
In conclusion, this iconic dinosaur is definitely the most interesting dinosaur. Hypsilophodon’s are dinosaurs that will forever be in history books.
