Budding Gardeners Compete At RHS Wisley

Each year the Royal Horticultural Society through their campaign for School Gardening run the RHS Budding Gardeners competition to enthuse young people about gardening. This year, a number of children took a design from Hook Junior School to the competition at Wisley.
On Thursday 21st May, a group of students went on a trip to Wisley Gardens for a gardening competition. Approximately forty schools went to create a design in a one by one metre garden – under the category of ‘Wonderland.’ Mrs Martin, Mrs Lawrence and Miss Smith chose Anya Hodgkiss, from 4SL, to represent the school with her ‘Rainbow Garden’ design.
Children brought Anya’s garden to life, while still being able to explore Wisley’s gardens and experiencing flowers and plants they had never seen before. They saw tropical plants, waterfalls and looked at many other schools design’s too. They experienced the fun of gardening and hopefully Hook Junior School will win an award!

Completing Anya's garden design was made possible with the additional contribution of the Art Club, who decorated the rainbow canes that surrounded the plot.
In support of the competition, all staff and children of Hook Junior School are given free entry to RHS Wisley over half term. If you would like to visit, please mention Budding Gardeners competition and the name of the school at the entrance.
Contributions to this story have been made by Victoria Phipps of 5TC and Anya Hodgkiss of 4SL.
