Early Bird Reading

Reading Buddy

Following the successes of previous Early Bird Reading and parent reading, we are seeking volunteers to become a Reading Buddy with children this term. Reading with children has proven to be a benefit to the children and helped promote a culture and love of reading.

Children’s reading ability and confidence in reading improves when they have the chance to read aloud to an adult and answer questions about the text. Reading with an adult aims to encourage confidence and enjoyment of reading throughout all aspects of the curriculum and life beyond school.

Early Bird Reading will run on Thursday mornings from 8.40am – 9.10am starting on Thursday 24th September 2015. Each parent will be assigned to a pupil whom you will read with each week. This may be changed by the child’s teacher.

In addition to Early Bird Reading on a Thursday, we would also welcome volunteers at other times in the school day.

For safeguarding reasons, we do require that all adults are subject to a DBS check (Disclosure and Barring Service, formerly a CRB check). Please indicate below whether you hold a DBS with Hook Junior School; if not we can arrange for this to take place.

If you would like to take part and be a Reading Buddy either with Early Bird Reading or during another session, please print, complete and return our reply slip and return to the school office by Thursday 17th September. Once we have received the forms, you will be assigned to a class and we will contact you to confirm the arrangements.
