Vocal Verses Poetry Competition

Vocal Versus Poetry Competition

On Thursday 8th October, a group of students from Year 5 took part in the Vocal Verses poetry competition and were awarded 2nd place.

Children from Hook Junior School were invited to take part in Vocal Verses Poetry Competition held at Hawley Primary School. The aim of the competition was to give children a purpose for learning poetry by heart, a requirement of the new curriculum and places a spotlight on poetry and the power of performance. Together with this, it was wonderful to bring our local schools together and showcase the talents in schools from our region including Heatherside Junior School, Charles Kingsley’s Primary School, Hawley Primary School, Potley Hill Primary School and Elvetham Heath Primary School.

Accompanied by Mrs Adsley, School Librarian, a group of students from Year 5 a took part in the competition. The children recited ‘A River’s Tale’ by Rudyard Kipling in front of a panel of three Judges and the other competing schools. The judges scored the performance based on accuracy, physical presence, voice and articulation and evidence of understanding the poem recited.

All the children performed beautifully with excellent articulation, they were awarded second place out of six other competing schools and we are very proud of their achievement.
