We are pleased to advise that we will continue to offer those children that would like to do so, the opportunity to learn a musical instrument in school during the next academic year.

We appreciate it may seem early to be planning this but the timescales are dictated by Hampshire Music Services who need to recruit the appropriate staff before September 2016.

We propose to request that Hampshire Music Service offer tuition with flute, keyboard, violin, clarinet and drums. Children will be taught in small groups there will be a minimum of 30 lessons offered during the school year for twenty/thirty minutes a week during school time. All children are expected to provide their own instruments for their tuition and parents are strongly advised to investigate the costs involved in addition to the cost of the tuition, before making a commitment. Children will be removed from lessons to undertake their music tuition and may have to catch up with work missed in their own time. We expect those who receive music tuition to attend and commit to being part of the school orchestra.

The cost of a year’s tuition to parents is £180 per year, however the full cost of tuition is partly subsidised by school funds. Please be aware that the school has to pay for the tuition ordered and therefore, parents are responsible for the whole year’s fees even if your child gives up playing. A refund will not be given. Parents on income support do not have to pay fees and should advise the school office, providing suitable documentation as evidence of their entitlement.

The tuition costs amount to £180 per year and are to be paid as follows:

  • £60 deposit is payable on booking
  • £60 payable in November 2016 and £60 payable in February 2017

If you wish to request a place for your child, whether or not they already learn an instrument, please return the reply slip (downloadable below) by Monday 25th April 2016. The availability of tuition will depend on pupil numbers and the final decision as to number limits and whether tuition with a particular instrument is viable, lies with Hampshire Music Services and not with the school. We will inform you during the summer term as to whether your child has been awarded a place. If your child has not been awarded a place all cheques provided as deposit will be refunded.

This is an excellent opportunity for our children and we are pleased to be able to offer such provision during school time. In the meantime if there is anything you wish to discuss regarding this, please do not hesitate to contact Mrs Marchant in the school office.
