Clean for the Queen

The Nurture Group marked both the Queen's 90th birthday and Earth Day by joining the national "Clean for the Queen" campaign.

On Thursday 21st of April, the Nurture Group marked both the Queen's 90th birthday and Earth Day (22nd April) by joining the national "Clean for the Queen" campaign.

The children have been learning about the life and times of Her Majesty during our sessions and now know that the protection and preservation of nature is important to the Queen. We decided to join the nationwide campaign to clean up our small part of Britain as a "gift" from us to Her Majesty (it's hard to find a good present for someone who has 9 thrones!). Wearing special t-shirts to highlight what we were doing, the children worked in pairs using litter pickers to collect rubbish on the field and around the school.

Children have also been discussing important issues affecting the future of our planet highlighted in the annual Earth Day celebrations. We have learned that efforts like planting trees, recycling and reducing waste are all things we can do to improve our environment. Along with making posters to display around the school, the children will also be creating a card to send to the Queen to let her know how we celebrated her birthday.
