For the week of the Queen's official birthday, beginning 6th June and ending 10th June, our curriculum will be focused on our own 'Queen’s Birthday Celebration’. We will end the week with a school street party for the children on the afternoon of Friday 10th June.

I declare before you all that my whole life, whether it be long or short, shall be devoted to your service and the service of our great imperial family to which we all belong.

Queen Elizabeth II

We are constantly looking for ways to make the children’s education meaningful, purposeful and relevant. For the week of the Queen's official birthday, beginning 6th June and ending 10th June, our curriculum will be focused on our own 'Queen’s Birthday Celebration’. We will end the week with a school street party for the children on the afternoon of Friday 10th June. This precedes the Hook Royal Party taking place at the Elizabeth Hall Park on Sunday 12th June.

Throughout the week, children will learn about the Queen’s reign, the Royal Family, the history and traditions of the Royal Family and what it means for us as a country to be inspired and served by Her Majesty.

We hope that the Queen’s Birthday celebration week will inspire children to think about their role as citizens in the United Kingdom – to celebrate all that is good in Britain and to explore our historical context, alongside thinking about ways in which they could get involved with ‘serving’ the local community.

We are involving children in local voluntary activities to enable the children to experience first-hand what it is like to ‘serve’ and support the community. The Nurture Group have already been cleaning for the queen, and some children have been restoring flower beds in the village by sowing some wild flower seeds with the Hook In Bloom volunteers.

Getting Ready For Our Street Party

To help celebrate the Queen’s 90th Birthday in style we would like children to participate in our street party wearing homemade crowns. Children are to create and make their own crown to wear at the street party on Friday 10th June. School Governors will judge the crowns, choosing one winning girl and boy from each year group and awarding small prizes for the winners. If your child would like to make a crown and enter the competition, please ensure that their completed crown is in school no later than Thursday 9th June.

Celebratory Activities On Friday 10th June

Wear Red, White and Blue

Friday 10th June will be a no uniform day. We invite children to wear red, white and blue clothing to school. This will tie in with our afternoon Street Party celebrations. Children may be as creative as they wish with their outfit.

Break Time Cake Sale

On the morning of Friday 10th June, a cake sale will take place at morning play and lunchtime. Funds raised from cake sales will be used to purchase flowers or shrubs for the school courtyard and quiet area.

We invite children and parents to bake cakes at home for the cake sale and it will add to our royal theme is these have a red, white and blue colour theme. Please make sure your edible donations are given to the school office by 9am Friday 10th June. We do ask that anyone making cakes ensures that their cakes contain no traces of nuts.

Making Sandwiches For Our Street Party

During the morning of the 10th June, children will be preparing sandwiches with the Hook Tesco team for children to eat in the afternoon. All children will then celebrate the Queen’s birthday through singing traditional songs and enjoying a light afternoon snack. If your child has any dietary needs please complete the attached form. We are once again extremely grateful for the enthusiastic participation of the Tesco team and for their kind donation of sandwich ingredients.

Children will all participate in a Street Party on the school grounds (weather permitting), enjoying the sandwiches made with Tesco and cakes purchased at break times. Crowns made by children will be judged by school governors and prizes awarded for winners in each year group. Children will sing a number of traditional songs in celebration of the Queens Official Birthday.

We hope that this week will be really enjoyable, relevant and purposeful for all the children and staff and hope that you will show your support for these activities.
