The RHS Wisley Budding Gardeners judges have awarded children from Hook Junior School a Gold Medal for their garden, 'Journey Into The Milky Way'.

Seven children from a variety of year groups visited the RHS Gardens at Wisley to construct their garden for this years' Budding Gardeners competition, which had a theme this year of rocket science.

Last year, a group of children designed and made the Rainbow Garden, receiving a silver award from the judges, This year these budding gardeners hope to equal or better that achievement.

Children throughout the school designed their gardens earlier this year, before a single design by Chloe K and Victoria P was chosen for entry into the competition. Chloe and Victoria value the idea of reading and writing fiction were inspired to tell the story of a rocket that travelled into space through their garden design. Wanting to be eco-friendly, Chloe and Victoria used a variety of recycled materials, including bottles, footballs, plant pots and pebbles. Much care and thought has been taken to ensure that the rocket science theme is strong in their design, in their choice of plants and in the structural elements of their garden. Children who visited Wisley have spent time at school this week making all the different elements of the garden in readiness of brining the design to life.

In support of the competition and recognition of our entry, children of Hook Junior School are given free entry to RHS Wisley over half term.
