Dance quartets from Year 4 and Year 6 travelled to Jersey for the annual Dance World Championships with their club, the Karen Blackburn Dance Academy with each group winning in their categories.

The competition began with the Opening Parade through the streets of St Helier to the Springfield Stadium for the Opening Ceremony. The streets were lined with well-wishers and all 1000 seats in the stadium were full.

Year 6 girls Lucy Bullock, Lucia Gonzalez, Emma Gibbon and Jemima Kingwell performed their Song and Dance Quartet ‘I Won’t Grow Up’ from Peter Pan in the Under 13 section. The girls displayed amazing energy and excellent vocals to take the Silver medal in their category.

Year 4 students Holly Pryke-Smith and Emilia Gonzalez were joined by two year 3 students from Whitewater Primary School, Rotherwick and competed in the Under 9's Modern Quartet. Their performance, ‘Black Violin’, was awarded the Gold medal and the girls became World Champions in this category and was followed with proud and emotional recital of the National Anthem, played in their honour.

The Black Violin Quartet went on to perform at the Jersey Opera House on Wednesday night at the Under 13's gala alongside 30 other invited dances in this showcase event for the Under 13 dancers at the World Cup.

Mini Quartet/Quad Modern (Year 4)

For their performance titled 'Black violin', girls from Year 4 won a Gold medal in the Mini Quartet / Quad Modern category.

Children Quartet/Quad Song and Dance (Year 6)

For their performance titled 'I won't grow up', girls from Year 6 won a Silver medal in the Children Quartet / Quad Song and Dance cetegory.
