Children from years five and six have started their new roles as Playground Leaders. The scheme gives Leaders the opportunity to hold a responsible position, contribute to playtime activities and support their peers.

Playground Leaders have an extremely important role to play in our school to ensure that playtimes and lunchtimes are enjoyable and safe for everyone.

The aim of this programme is to introduce and develop leadership skills within children through the use of organisation and communication. The scheme is designed to promote more physical activities on the playground and reduce anti social behaviour. Some of the duties include designing activities, organising the equipment needed and monitoring behaviour during the games. The Playground Leaders are also required to attend regular meetings to feedback successes and discuss improvements. A whole school assembly was held to outline these roles carefully but to also make children aware of the service they provide.

Playground Leaders are there to support children who may find playtimes difficult, struggle to find someone to play with or to anyone else who would like to join in the ongoing activities. Playground Leaders have a designated place on the playground and can be easily spotted through the highly visible jackets they have been given.

It is an absolute credit to all the successful applicants of the Playground Leaders Scheme who give up their own playtimes to help others and contribute to making our school the best it can be. They show great eagerness, enthusiasm and determination and it is a pleasure for staff to work with this team.
