Children in year 5 are contributing to the Hampshire Illustrated Book Awards by reviewing a number of illustrated stories.
Continuous development of reading skills is a key objective of the curriclulum and is an important skill for all chidlren to master in order to achieve their full potential.
With fewer words than many of the titles in our school library, year 5 are exploring a number of illustrated books as part of the Hampshire Illustrated Book Award. getting involved in the Hampshire Illustrated Book Award. This is a chance for Year 5 children to read, share and evaluate six books from well-known and new children's authors, which have been shortlisted by the School Library Service.
The aim of the award is to promote enjoyment of reading, to develop children's visual literacy skills, to develop pupil's critical ability and to draw attention to the genre of picture books for older readers.
The children will get an opportunity to look at all the books, be involved in focussed class discussions and help decide the winner by voting for their favourite book. All votes get passed on to the School Library Service who will then announce the winner in December.
