Mrs Bailey, Assistant Headteacher, is taking part in a prestigious maths focused teacher exchange with a partner school in Shanghai this week.
One of 70 expert mathematics teachers from schools across England, Mrs Bailey is participating in the exchange as part of the Maths Hubs programme, together with Mr Collins from St Josephs Catholic Primary School in Guildford. The programme aims to improve maths learning outcomes for pupils through the continued improvement of maths teaching methods.
During the visit, Mrs Bailey will be learning in detail the approaches taken to maths and how this is taught using the 'mastery' approach taken in Singapore and Shanghai. When she returns, Mrs Bailey will be sharing her new understanding with local partner schools during the coming school year. The exchange programme is one part of the Teaching for Mastery Programme, run by the National Centre for Excellence in the Teaching of Mathematics (NCETM).
Mrs Bailey said that her first day was very inspirational and began with a welcome ceremony and speeches from the hosting organisations. Mrs Bailey and Mr Collins then met their host teachers with whom they will be spending much of their time during the exchange.
