Year 6 children reflect on their week long residential at Marchants Hill.
Polly K and Ava S, both in Year 6, reflect on their Marchants Hill experience.
On October 16th – October 20th, Year 6 stayed at Marchants Hill; they slept in separate cabins, made up of 6 pupils each. Teachers and staff from Hook Junior School as well as adults from the local community came to support the children throughout this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Friendly PGL staff were there to help them on a range of different activities that every one of them got to experience.
Activities
Year 6 participated in a range of activities, for example: raft building, archery, rifle shooting, zip wire, abseiling rock climbing, aero ball, giant swing, mud challenge, team sports, puzzle solving, Jacob’s ladder and orienteering.
Evening Activities
Moreover, every evening there would be an evening activity that the children could choose whether or not they wanted to do. These included: sports in the hall, campfire night, ambush (hide and seek in the dark) and finally the disco night!
Accommodation
For the accommodation, the whole year group was split between 16 rooms, most of them with 6 pupils each – the girls got put into separate rooms from the boys. In each room there were three bunk beds and a set of shelves for storing items on.
To conclude, in general, Year 6 thoroughly enjoyed the experience; it improved their social skills, self-confidence and their overall determination. Consequently, this residential trip has been a great experience for the children as well as the teachers and will be for the upcoming years.
